The transition to a more sustainable energy system requires more than new electricity generation capacity. It also depends on reliable infrastructure that enables renewable energy projects to connect safely and efficiently to the transmission grid.

PSS Bulgaria is contributing to Vedrare 70 MW, a solar park developed by Chint New Energy near the village of Vedrare in Karlovo Municipality. The project has an installed capacity of 70 MW.

The project supports the development of renewable energy in Bulgaria and calls for grid infrastructure that meets the power system’s requirements for safety and reliability.

PSS Bulgaria’s Role in the Project

PSS Bulgaria is responsible for the design and construction of key electrical infrastructure required to connect the solar park to the transmission grid. Its scope covers three main facilities:

New Vedrare 33/110 kV step-up substation

PSS Bulgaria is designing and constructing a new step-up substation to connect the solar park’s generation facilities to the transmission system.

New 110 kV cable line

The company is designing and constructing a 110 kV cable line between the Vedrare substation and the Karlovo 2 substation, providing the connection needed to transmit the electricity generated by the solar park.

Reconstruction and expansion of the Karlovo 2 substation (110/20 kV)

PSS Bulgaria is carrying out reconstruction and expansion works at the existing substation to accommodate the new connection and provide the required operational reliability.

An Integrated Engineering Approach

PSS Bulgaria’s work spans the full engineering and delivery cycle:

  • Design;
  • Supply of major equipment;
  • Construction;
  • Reconstruction and installation;
  • Testing and commissioning;
  • Bringing the facilities into operation.

This integrated approach supports coordination across the project stages and delivery in accordance with applicable technical standards and regulatory requirements.

The Infrastructure Behind the Energy Transition

Every new renewable energy project depends on more than its generating capacity. Substations, power lines, control systems and grid connection facilities enable that capacity to be integrated into the power system.

Through its work on Vedrare 70 MW, PSS Bulgaria continues to apply its expertise in the design, construction and modernisation of power infrastructure that supports the development of renewable energy in Bulgaria.
